So you have a big idea that you can’t get off of your mind? Maybe you’re just ready to have your own business or perhaps you just want to make a little extra money?
Well, the good news is it has never been an easier time than now to start a business and make money! Starting your business can be as big as opening up stores or as small as blogging (and yes, both can generate income!).
When starting your business, I do think there are a few questions you should ask yourself before going all in. You don’t want to declare to the world that you are starting a business and then half way through “starting” the business, you realize it’s not for you.
Here are the 6 basic questions you should ask yourself:
1. What problem am I solving?
Will your service or product solve a problem people are facing?
For example, on my YouTube channel I help women who are beginners in makeup achieve easy and beauty makeup looks by providing beginner friendly makeup tutorials. That’s the problem I solve.
2. Who else is doing this?
Who is doing what you want to do? What are they doing that works? How are they doing it?
3. Are they successful?
You don’t want to get in a field where there is no money. Are the people doing the same thing as you making money or it is a dying (or dead!) field?
Oh and remember, just because a field is over-saturated doesn’t mean its not successful. If its over-saturated then there’s clearly money being made in it and money to be made! Yes, it may be harder for you to get your money in a heavily saturated field but it wont be impossible!
4. What will set me apart from others?
What will differentiate you from others?
5. What resources do I need to get started?
If you want to blog, you’ll need a blog. If you want to be a youtuber, you’ll need internet access and a camera. Figure out what resources you need to get started.
Remember want and need are two separate things. You don’t need the most expensive camera, lights and video software to start a YouTube channel. You can use your phone.
Don’t go broke on items you don’t need trying to fund a dream.
6. What is the target market for my business?
Who is your target market? How will you reach them?
Starting a business takes courage but being successful and staying in business takes even more. You’ll need a combination of hard work, skill, perseverance, and maybe even a little.
